After 19 straight losses to its rival, Provo High School hoped when it took its 5-0 region record into a showdown with Timpview on Friday night that this year would be different.
Timpview quarterback Trevor Brown had a thing or two to say about that idea.
Not on my watch.
Not my senior year.
Brown threw four touchdown passes and ran in another one as Timpview continued its domination over Provo with a convincing 64-7 win.
"We were getting all hyped up all week. We heard they said they can hang with us and when we get mad and play our game no one can hang with us," Brown said. "Our line played really well. I've got to give credit to the Hogs. Alex Moon, Nate Svensson, Tyson Tiatia, Kalvin Cusick all the credit goes to our line."
The line gave Brown ample time to find his favorite target on the night -- wide receiver Zack VanLeeuwen, who caught touchdown passes of 80 and 10 yards.
For Provo there were few bright spots. After sacking Brown on the first play of the game, Brown found VanLeeuwen for an 80-yard touchdown strike on the next play to give Timpview the early lead.
After forcing Provo to punt, the T'Birds moved the ball to the Provo two when the game changed for good. Provo's standout player Maka Unufe was hurt making a tackle. After a lengthy delay he was carted off the field on a stretcher and taken to the hospital with a concussion.
"I take my hat off to Provo, they've had a great season. Unfortunately Maka got hurt early. I hope he's doing well, hopefully they will get him back for the playoffs and Provo can go deep in the playoffs," said Timpview coach Louis Wong. "We played well today, we executed well, but you know when they got their best player out they're a one-sided team so that was to our advantage."
When play resumed, Timpview promptly fumbled on its first play and Provo's Kyle Willcocks recovered.
But all the turnover did was delay the inevitable. Timpview's offense couldn't be kept out of the end zone for long.
The T'Birds moved the ball to the Provo 10 when Brown fumbled the ball in the shotgun. He nearly fell down as he struggled to recover the ball, but he regained his balance, kept his cool, and fired a 10-yard touchdown pass to VanLeeuwen to put Timpview up 21-0 with 8:36 left in the half.
Brown effectively put the game out of reach on Timpview's next series when he turned the corner and took off on a 52-yard touchdown run with 3:32 left in the half.
Meanwhile, Provo's offense continued to struggle. When the Bulldogs were forced to punt, the snap sailed over punter Trent Andrus' head. He reached the ball at his own five about the same time as a pair of Timpview defenders, but managed to kick the ball out of his end zone, giving the T'Birds a safety.
Timpview got the ball back after the safety with 1:40 left in the half, plenty of time for Brown to cause trouble. This time when Brown dropped back, he spotted Jacob Hatch for a 52-yard touchdown strike that gave Timpview a 37-0 lead at the half.
The halftime break did nothing to cool Timpview off. Brown hit Ky Raymond on a middle screen that went for a 74-yard touchdown. Joey Trammel scored on a 7-yard turn and backup quarterback Christian Covey scored on a 6-yard run.
Provo avoided the shutout with 5:10 left in the game when Keoki Unufe scored on a 58-yard run.
The win secured the Region 7 title for Timpview, while Provo settled for second. Both teams will open up the 4A playoffs at home next week.
