First Grade Students at Mapleton Elementary School took a walking field trip in the rain last week to kick off their Fire Safety Unit. Students enjoyed being in the fire station with Fire Chief Olsen. He explainedmall the equipment used for various emergencies and reviewed procedures for students in the event of a fire.Their favorite part of the visit was when he took them outside to show them how the pumper truck works. The sun came out just in time and a beautiful rainbow along with all the water which sprayed clear across the street into the park. We appreciate our community workers taking the time to educate us on fire safety. Students were urged to help their families make up an emergency plan including checking smoke detectors, using 911 and knowing where the family should meet in case of an emergency. Pictured here are Mrs. Kristin Holmes with her first grade class and Chief Olsen.
