Art City Elementary 4th grade on Friday, Nov. 13, learned about what could be in the water in our lakes and streams: dirt, oil, fertilizer, soap from washing our cars, feces from our animals and who knows what else! The message to the 4th graders was "Don't pollute!" Julie Cole, from Utah County Storm Water Coalition, showed the 4th grade what the pollution would do to our lakes, rivers, and streams but mostly the fish. She used a sponge shaped like a fish, named Fred, and a vase full of water to help us understand what pollution can do. First she put in fertilizer and everyone asked "How is Fred?" She pulled Fred out and said, "Not so good." Then she put in soil, oil, litter, feces, and paint. By the end, Fred looked terrible. The message she sent is save wildlife, save the fish, and don't pollute! Article and pictures by Sara King, 4th grade ACE Reporter
