The Salem Hills Skyhawks finished a great season on Friday when they traveled to Hyrum and played the Region 5 Champion Mountain Crest Mustangs.
The Skyhawks had high hopes as they went into this state playoff game as huge underdogs. Unfortunately for Salem, Mountain Crest played an excellent game and showed everyone why they are predicted to take state.
Salem struggled on both sides of the ball. The defense spent a lot of time on the field and the huge size difference began to wear them down. They forced several plays to go 3rd and long but just couldn't stop the 3rd down conversion.
The Salem offense had glimmers of hope here and there. They only managed to score once when they had a great kick off return and then several promising runs to score a Skyhawk touchdown in the 3rd quarter.
Salem seemed confused and out of step most of the game and the Mustangs took advantage of that to win 55-6.
The Skyhawks can still be proud of the accomplishments they have made this year. As a second year school they played hard and defeated some pretty tough competition to place 3rd in Region and earn a place at state.
