On August 8, scores of residents in Elk Ridge gave of their time in a day of service to the city.

Neighborhoods were broken up into sections and mobilized to help out doing whatever needed to be done to beautify the city. In one area, close to 40 residents met at a home in the neighborhood at 7:30 in the morning and started out with a potluck breakfast.

Neighbors brought rakes, shovels, trash bags, brooms and gloves and set to work.

These volunteers cleared trash from a ravine, pulled weeds and cleaned street gutters, even discovering and unblocking storm drains no one even remembered existed.

Residents then moved to higher ground and cleared a cul-de-sac bordered by open ground of rocks and debris so that it wouldn't wash down during the next storm and recreate the problem.

This volunteer effort was repeated all over the city with different citizens assigned to gather their neighbors and spearhead volunteer efforts in their section of the city.

Special thanks to the Elk Ridge 4th ward volunteers and coordinators for coming through with dozens of volunteers and combined hours of labor to make Elk Ridge such a beautiful place to live.
