Jeanie Calkin, director of the Mobile Food Pantry/DROPS Coordinator started sending a mobile food pantry to the town of

Eureka from the main building in Salt Lake City. Bishop Ron Barlow of the LDS church provided the church parking lot for the mobile food pantry distribution location.

The service started in May and helped some 20 families. June, even though there was a disruption of logistics and they were not

able to reach families that could not make it to the distribution location, they still helped to feed over thirty families. That changed in July when neighbors helped neighbors and brought those that could not bring themselves. Over forty families were helped.

Eureka was the only distribution point in the area and those in need from Goshen had to drive to Eureka. After finding out that there

were people in Goshen that could not get to Eureka she started, on Wednesday August 25th, a new distribution location in Goshen at the Senior Center.

The near impromptu 9am stop at Goshen served 30 families. Then the truck continued to Eureka where another 34 families were helped.

Jeanie and Rick smiled the whole time that they worked. Increasing from 20 families in June to 64 in August, Jeanie's attempt to provide for those that live in more remote areas of Utah has been a smashing success.

Starting September 30th the Goshen distribution will be from 9am to 10am at the Senior Center. The Eureka distribution will start at 11am and continue till 12:30 or until the food runs out (which it did back on August 25th).

The next scheduled stops will be: Wednesday, September 30th; Wednesday, October 28th; Wednesday, November 25th.

Jeanie smiled as she said something that sounded a bit like a line from "Jaws"; "I think we may need a bigger truck!"

Jeanie added, "We don't discriminate against anybody as long as they are in need of food. We don't discriminate about race, we don't discriminate about drug use. We want to feed hungry people no matter what they do."
