LEHI -- An Amtrack train eight cars long collided with a Chevy Malibu carrying six people late Thursday night in Lehi.

Despite spinning the car into a nearby ditch on 2100 North at about 2050 West, no one was seriously injured.

"It appears that he probably just didn't see the train," said Lehi Sgt. Jeff Swenson.

There is a stop sign at the intersection of the road and railroad tracks, but the tracks cross the road at an angle, making it more difficult to see oncoming trains. A witness behind the Malibu said the train did sound a warning with a horn blast.

The only injuries consisted of complaints about sore legs and one man being treated on the scene for a cut hand.

"About every window in the vehicle had shattered," Swenson said.

The investigation is ongoing and possible charges are still being considered against the driver of the car.
