A nearly 1-year-old robbery case was solved this week after the getaway driver confessed.

Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez said investigators did not know who was involved in the Dec. 23, 2008, robbery until the driver recently came forward and provided information about his actions and those of the bank robber. Martinez said the confession was voluntary and may have been due to a burning conscience.

"It was religiously motivated," Martinez said.

It is unclear what exactly spurred the confession, however. Martinez said police have not talked to the man's clergy and likely will not.

"I don't know if it was just guilty conscience or what," he said.

Charges against the driver, Cameron Lee Johnson, have not been filed yet, but police arrested Jared Fulton Perkins Wednesday in connection with the robbery.

According to a police affidavit, Perkins entered the Alpine Credit Union on 351 E. 800 South in Orem around noon on Dec. 23.

He allegedly wore a wig, knitted cap and sunglasses and handed the teller a note demanding all the money in the cash drawer.

The note also reportedly instructed her not to push the silent alarm or put dye packs in the money bag.

The clerk complied with the instructions and Perkins allegedly took the money and left through the south doors of the bank, according to the affidavit. He then walked through the parking lot to a waiting vehicle and left the scene.

The wig, cap and sunglasses were reportedly discarded in a Dumpster in Pleasant Grove, and Perkins and Johnson reportedly went to the University Mall and spent some of the money.
