A rock slide damaged the Alpine Loop Highway in American Fork Canyon on Saturday morning, about a quarter-mile up from the toll gate.
No one was injured or trapped, said Sgt. Jeff Nigbur of the Utah Highway Patrol, but rocks and boulders came down with such force that it "left quite a crater" in the eastbound lane. UDOT is planning to backfill and repave the road today. The road is not closed, but until repairs are complete, travelers should expect delays, as traffic in both directions alternates using the westbound lane.
