Election night in Utah County had a few thrills despite abysmal voter turnout. In Provo, political newcomers came out on top, while in Payson a write-in candidate for mayor coasted to victory. A nailbiter in the Eagle Mountain mayor's race was too close to call. Nationally, Republicans were encouraged as they took governor's seats away from Democrats in New Jersey and Virginia.

Some key races:

  • In Lehi, Burt Wilson will be the new mayor, after besting former mayor Ken Greenwood.
  • In Payson, write-in candidate Rick Moore won with 991 votes over Mayor Burtis Bills, who received 792 votes.
  • Eagle Mountain Mayor Heather Jackson is ahead by a handful, but there are still 73 provisional ballots to count.
