County now taking property taxes online
The Utah County Assessor’s Office launched its online submission program Monday for personal property taxes.
“I was a little paranoid because we were debugging on Friday,” said Assessor Kris Poulson. They had a few calls Monday about bugs, but were able to fix them quickly, he said.
There are more than 16,000 businesses in Utah County that file personal property taxes, and the move online was to make it easier for them, plus cut costs and paperwork handled by the county.
To log on, you’ll need your account number and PIN that are in the paperwork mailed by the county.
The system will keep your records stored so that you don’t have to re-enter items each year. Adding, deleting or changing items is all possible right up until you hit the submit button, even if you come back after several days.
If you’ve got a small business — less than $3,570 in personal property — don’t forget the deadline to apply for an exemption is 30 days from the time the county mailed out the notice. The exemption can also be applied for at the new site.
The site can be found by going to utahcountyonline.com and clicking the 2008 Online Personal Property Tax Statement link on the right side.
